Bio

I grew up on the city limits of Detroit in a working class neighborhood. The location coupled with climate made for, aside from summer, a mostly grey environment. The city had a lasting effect on my appreciation for industrial objects, buildings, and the textures found in them. The neighbor boy and I regularly conducted small-scale excavations unearthing wonderful bits of rusted treasure from the twenties. That was when I started to appreciate metal's aging process.

My parents were classical music enthusiasts and musicians. My younger brother would only tolerate opera; consequently, I really didn't hear other types of music until I got a Bangles tape in the mail.

My artistic development is a similar story to others. Throughout my life my Mom has encouraged and supported my desire to make art. She enrolled me in private art classes at the age of 4, and I continued with them until I was 18. I was accepted to the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Upon arrival I thought I wanted to be a font designer because it seemed "sensible"- yet creative. I wasn't pressured- I came to this conclusion by my own devices and quickly switched to fine arts. I moved to Firenze, Italy briefly, and studied fresco restoration and printmaking.

I came out to California 2 ½ years ago because I like the ocean and never want to see snow.
